Nalanda University Ruins are the remains of the ancient Nalanda Mahavihara, located in Nalanda district of Bihar. This site represents one of the world’s earliest and most influential centers of higher learning, active from the 5th to the 12th century. Scholars from across Asia came here to study subjects like Buddhist philosophy, logic, medicine, mathematics, and astronomy. The ruins include monasteries, temples, classrooms, and residential quarters arranged in a planned layout. Nalanda was supported by royal patronage from powerful dynasties such as the Guptas and Palas. The site is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its global historical importance. The nearby museum preserves important artifacts and inscriptions. Nalanda University Ruins continue to stand as a symbol of ancient India’s educational excellence.
