Udhwa Bird Sanctuary is the only bird sanctuary in Jharkhand and is located in the Sahibganj district near the Ganga River. The sanctuary consists of two interconnected lakes, Pataura Lake and Berhale Lake, which together form an important wetland ecosystem. It is a major habitat for migratory birds that arrive from Central Asia, Siberia, and other cold regions during the winter season. Species such as storks, herons, egrets, cormorants, ducks, and migratory waterfowl are commonly seen here. The wetland environment provides ideal conditions for nesting, feeding, and breeding of birds. The sanctuary is also rich in aquatic plants, fish, and local biodiversity. It attracts bird watchers, researchers, photographers, and nature lovers. Udhwa Bird Sanctuary plays a vital role in bird conservation and ecological balance in eastern India.
