Khatara Satra, a historic spiritual institution in the northern part of Darrang district, Assam, is located about 13 km northwest of Sipajhar along National Highway 15 and roughly 20 km east of the district headquarters, Mangaldai. Established in 1568 AD by Gobinda Ata (also known as Lechakonia Sri Sri Gobinda Ata), this Satra has stood for nearly five centuries as a centre of Vaishnavite faith, culture, and community life. Over the years, Khatara Satra has become more than just a religious institution — it’s a vibrant hub of traditional Assamese culture and heritage. The Satra preserves classical art forms like devotional music, dance, drama (bhaona), and naam-kirtan, contributing significantly to the cultural legacy of Assam.Visitors to Khatara Satra experience a deep sense of history and spirituality, especially during festivals such as the traditional five-day “Pacati” celebration.
