Golghar is a historic granary located in Patna, Bihar, built during the British period in 1786. It was constructed by Captain John Garstin to prevent famine after the devastating Bengal famine of 1770. The structure is known for its massive beehive-shaped design and thick walls made of masonry. Golghar has a unique spiral staircase with 145 steps that leads to the top. From the summit, visitors get a panoramic view of Patna city and the Ganga River. Although it was built for grain storage, it was rarely used for that purpose. Today, Golghar stands as an iconic historical landmark of Patna. It attracts tourists, historians, and architecture enthusiasts throughout the year.
