Ashrafi Mahal is an important historical monument located in Mandu, Madhya Pradesh, situated close to the Jama Masjid complex. Built in the 15th century during the reign of Sultan Mahmud Khilji of the Malwa Sultanate, the structure originally served as a madrasa (Islamic educational institution) and later as a commemorative building celebrating the sultan’s victory over neighboring kingdoms. Today, Ashrafi Mahal survives in a ruined state, but its remains reveal fine Indo-Islamic architectural elements such as arched corridors, stone masonry, and elevated platforms. Despite its partial collapse, the monument holds great historical and archaeological significance and stands as a reminder of Mandu’s role as a center of learning, power, and culture during medieval times.
