Ranipur Jharial, located in the Balangir district of Odisha, is an important archaeological and heritage site often referred to as the “Somnath of the East” due to its remarkable cluster of ancient temples reflecting Shaivism, Vaishnavism, Buddhism, and Tantric traditions. The site is most famous for the 64 Yogini Temple, one of the four surviving Yogini temples in India, along with over 50 scattered temple ruins dating back to the 8th–9th century AD, showcasing exquisite stone carvings and Kalinga-style architecture. Ranipur Jharial is open daily from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and the best time to visit is October to March, when the weather is pleasant for exploration. Situated about 100 km from Balangir town, the site is accessible by road and is ideal for history lovers, archaeology enthusiasts, and spiritual travelers seeking a peaceful and culturally rich destination in western Odisha.
