Shiva is depicted as having been in a state of profound meditation, and it is from this meditative state that he is said to have received the knowledge of yoga, which he then shared with the seven ancient sages or rishis, who were his first disciples. The concept of Adiyogi has been popularized in modern times through the Isha Foundation, an organization founded by Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, who has created several initiatives to spread the teachings of yoga and well-being. One of the most notable projects is the Adiyogi Shiva Statue located in Coimbatore, India. Velliangiri Hills, often referred to as the "South Kailash," is a revered mountain range located near Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. This sacred site is renowned for its challenging 6.5 km trek through dense forests, culminating at the Velliangiri Andavar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. The trek is divided into seven hills, each offering unique terrains—from steep stone steps to rocky paths—making it a test of endurance and devotion. Temple Timings: The Velliangiri Andavar Temple is open daily from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Dinamalar Temple


Trekking Season: The trekking route is accessible from Maha Shivaratri (usually in February or March) until May 31st. During this period, pilgrims can trek both day and night. After this season, trekking is permitted only during the daytime on No Moon Days (Amavasai). Veludharan


Entry Fee: There is no entry fee for the temple or the trekking route. However, to combat plastic waste, the forest department collects a ₹20 refundable deposit per plastic bottle brought onto the hills. The trek to Velliangiri Hills is a spiritual journey that challenges both the body and mind. The path traverses through the Boluvampatti forest reserve, home to diverse flora and fauna.
