Udayagiri Caves is a group of ancient rock-cut caves located near Vidisha in Madhya Pradesh and is one of the most important archaeological sites in central India. Dating back to the Gupta period around the 4th–5th century CE, the caves are renowned for their exquisite sculptures, inscriptions, and religious significance. The site includes both Hindu and Jain caves, with the famous Varaha (boar) incarnation of Lord Vishnu being one of the finest examples of Gupta-era art. Carved into sandstone hills, the caves reflect early developments in Indian rock-cut architecture and spirituality. Udayagiri Caves attract historians, archaeologists, students, and tourists interested in ancient Indian art, religion, and heritage.
