Silchar, the cultural and commercial hub of southern Assam, is located in the heart of the Barak Valley along the banks of the Barak River. Positioned about 310 km south of Guwahati and only 50 km from the Assam–Mizoram border, Silchar serves as a major gateway to the northeastern states. The city lies close to important towns like Hailakandi (32 km) and Karimganj (44 km), making it a central transit point in the region. Known for its warm hospitality, lush tea gardens, and vibrant Bengali and Assamese heritage, Silchar attracts travelers with sites like Khaspur Rajbari ruins, Badarpur Fort, Dolu Lake, and the peaceful Manipuri and Dimasa settlements. With excellent road connectivity through NH 37, NH 306, a busy airport at Kumbhirgram (approx. 25 km from city), and a major railway junction, Silchar is one of the most accessible and culturally rich destinations in Assam.
