Saranda Forest is one of the largest and densest sal forests in Asia, located in the West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand. The name Saranda means “land of seven hundred hills,” and the region is known for its rugged terrain, hills, and deep valleys. The forest is rich in biodiversity and is home to wildlife such as elephants, leopards, bears, deer, and numerous bird species. Saranda is dominated by vast stretches of sal trees, which create a dense green canopy. Several rivers, streams, and seasonal waterfalls flow through the forest, enhancing its natural beauty. The area is also inhabited by tribal communities, mainly the Ho tribe, who depend on forest resources for their livelihood. Saranda Forest holds ecological importance and plays a key role in maintaining environmental balance. Despite mining activities in nearby areas, the forest remains a vital natural treasure of Jharkhand.
