Jahaz Mahal, meaning “Ship Palace,” is one of the most iconic monuments in Mandu, Madhya Pradesh. Built in the 15th century by Sultan Ghiyas-ud-din Khilji, the palace is situated between two artificial lakes, Munj Talao and Kapur Talao, giving it the appearance of a ship floating on water. The structure reflects elegant Afghan architecture with long corridors, open pavilions, balconies, fountains, and airy courtyards designed to suit Mandu’s monsoon climate. Originally constructed as a pleasure resort and harem palace, Jahaz Mahal is celebrated for its symmetry, scenic setting, and historical charm, making it a must-visit heritage attraction in the Mandu region.
