Chausa Battlefield is a historic site located near Chausa town in the Buxar district of western Bihar, along the banks of the Ganga River. It is famous for the Battle of Chausa fought in 1539 between Sher Shah Suri and the Mughal emperor Humayun. This battle was a decisive turning point in medieval Indian history, leading to Sher Shah Suri’s rise to power. The defeat forced Humayun to flee India temporarily. The battlefield area is part of the fertile Gangetic plains and reflects the strategic importance of river routes in warfare. Though no large structures remain, the site holds strong historical value. It is studied by historians as a key event before the establishment of the Sur Empire. Chausa Battlefield continues to be remembered as a landmark of political change in Indian history.
