Bajali, located in western Assam, is a newly reconstituted district of the state, with its headquarters at Pathsala town. Spanning an area of around 418 km², Bajali shares its borders with Baksa district to the north, Nalbari district to the east, and Barpeta district to its west and south. The district was originally carved out from Barpeta — officially declared on 12 January 2021 — then briefly merged back, and finally reinstated on 12 October 2023. Bajali is known for its fertile plains intersected by small rivers (like the Kaldia, Pahumara and Deojara), making agriculture a key livelihood. Its people are predominantly Assamese-speaking, with minority groups speaking Bodo and Bengali among others.
