Padma Sarovaram – The Sacred Pond at Tiruchanuru

The Padma Sarovaram (also called Padma Pushkarini) is one of the most sacred and spiritually significant spots inside the Padmavathi Ammavari Temple complex at Tiruchanuru (Alamelu Mangapuram).
This serene pond is not just a water body but a divine site deeply rooted in Hindu mythology — it is believed to be the very place where Goddess Padmavathi Devi manifested from a golden lotus flower.

Mythological Significance

According to Vaishnava tradition, Goddess Lakshmi Devi, after leaving Vaikuntham, was born on earth as Padmavathi, emerging from a lotus (Padmam) that bloomed in this sacred pond.
The pond thus came to be known as “Padma Sarovaram”, meaning the lake of the lotus.

It is said that Lord Srinivasa (Venkateswara Swamy) first saw Goddess Padmavathi here, and their divine union later took place at Narayanavanam.
Because of this sacred origin, Padma Sarovaram holds immense spiritual importance — devotees believe that taking a dip in this pond purifies the soul and removes sins.
