History of Bhadrachalam Temple
The temple’s history dates back to the 17th century. According to legend, the original idol of Lord Rama appeared in a dream to Pokanati Reddy, a devotee who discovered the deity in the forest area of Bhadrachalam.
The present temple structure was built by Bhadrachala Ramadasu (Kancherla Gopanna), a staunch devotee of Lord Rama and a revenue officer under the Golconda Sultanate. Due to misuse of state funds for temple construction, Ramadasu was imprisoned. It is believed that Lord Rama and Lakshmana repaid the amount to the ruler, leading to Ramadasu’s release. This story remains central to the temple’s spiritual importance.
